team philly has landed! and other things.

So we have technically been in Philadelphia for about three days now but I'm just now getting to update everyone on what's going on!  Who knew that being in charge of three different blogs would be so hard!  For those who aren't yet connected with the exclusively Philadelphia team blogs, here are two links, the first being the AIM blog, and the second our own personal one:

So I'm thankful to be in Philly but I'm not gonna lie, the transition has been a little hard for me.  I've been doing a good bit of traveling since last weekend with going back to Harrisonburg for Laura's wedding, flying back to GA, then driving from Gainesvilles to D.C. then D.C. to Philly.  Also in there was lots of packing, unpacking, whirlwind errands, and my 21st birthday.  Therefore, I got really homesick.  The longest I've ever been away from my family is about two weeks and being that I live in my hometown and go to school there, I'm not quite used to not being a stones throw/5-minute drive from my family.

When we arrived on Wyoming Ave, we pulled up to a bit of a rougher part of town.  I think our group was a bit shocked and didn't have time to process before we were sent into the church for a meeting.  The afternoon was soon a dizzy of introductions, seeing new places, and adjustments from original plans.  I was completely overwhelmed by the time we picked up Maddy from the airport at 9:45 PM.  

Needless to say, there was a slightly teary conversation to my mom but she always has the right words to say.

Her words were ones of support and love, encouraging me in the decision I've made for the summer, reminding me that God has me here for a reason.

Today our team finally got some time to sit together and reflect on the past couple of days.  Marcus, one of our project leaders, read us a passage from John 5.

"But Jesus replied, 'My Father is always working, and so am I.'...'I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself.  He does only what he sees the Father doing.  Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.  For the Father loves the Son and show him everything he is doing."

Our team is here to do what the Father is wants us to do.  It is nothing of our own strength, will or determination but all of his power and glory that gets anything done.  This summer is about us growing closer to the Lord so that we can hear his voice and discern what he wants us to do.  

I would be wonderful if you could be praying for me and my growing intimacy with Christ and also the continued unifying of our team.  I know I'm anxiously awaiting what God is going to do here in Philly and in the ministries we serve.
